AC ST. LOUIS NOTCH A POINT IN PORTLAND

PORTLAND, OR (May 16, 2010) – AC St. Louis, playing in the USSF Division 2 Pro League, earn a tough point on the road in Portland Saturday night with a 1-1 tie against the Timbers in front of 10,057 fans. AC St. Louis ups their season record to 1-5-1, and is set to play the Tampa Bay Rowdies, 7:10 PM next Saturday Night at the AB Soccer Park.

AC St. Louis kicked off the game in a low pressure 4-5-1 formation and stayed compact and organized defensively making it very difficult for Portland to break down. The first 20 minutes was erratic play on a narrow field and there were few chances to score by either side. The first quality chance of the game came in the 26th minute when Portland hit a nice shot from 15 yards just over the crossbar. Portland then started to dominate up till half time and mustered 7 shots on goal.

AC St. Louis made no adjustments on the line up or formation for the 2nd half. ACSTL defensively stayed strategically compact and weathered a barrage of scoring chances. The Portland supporters were loud throughout the game and smoke bombs were lit up in the 66 min as Portland notched a goal with a low left side far post shot from 15 yards out.

AC stayed in their defensive formation keeping it close and avoiding many Portland chances throughout the second half. In the 90th minute AC St. Louis got the equalizing goal by midfielder Mike Ambersley with a low far post strike from 12 yards out on a great turn in the box.
