AC ST. LOUIS HOST MONTREAL SATURDAY NIGHT

ST. LOUIS, MO (July 9, 2010) – AC St. Louis, playing in the USSF Division 2 Pro League, will host the Montreal Impact on Saturday night, July 10, for a 7:10 p.m. kick-off at The Anheuser-Busch Soccer Park. The match can also be viewed via live streaming at www.ac-stlouis.com.

Saturday night’s game is the first ever between these two sides. St. Louis will travel to Montreal in eleven days time to conclude the short two-game season series. AC St. Louis and the Impact have an identical record over their last five league games, both teams are 1-2-2 over their last five matches, earning five points each. AC St. Louis returns home after once again holding division-leading Vancouver to a 1-1 draw. St. Louis also held Vancouver to a 0-0 draw on June 26 in Dale Schilly’s first game as head coach. Montreal comes to town after losing the first match of their two-game road trip to the Rochester Rhinos by a 2-1 mark.

Saturday night represents one of the first opportunities St. Louis has had to pull back into the playoff chase. Currently AC sit five points behind fifth place Miami, but with one game in hand that margin could be cut to just two points. Two straight AC St. Louis wins could see the club come off the bottom of the table for the first time this season.

Since Dale Schilly was named head coach the club has a record of 0-1-2 in league play. Schilly has guided the team to the aforementioned draws against first place Vancouver, and on Saturday night he will be looking for his first career win. In three league games under the new coaching staff St. Louis has allowed three goals, but two of the goals were long-range efforts courtesy of the Carolina Railhawks. The St. Louis defense has stabilized and continues to improve. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Alec Dufty is in good form and turned in a “man of the match” quality performance in Vancouver on Thursday night.

Offensively, Mike Ambersley is expected to return after missing the Vancouver trip with a hip-strain. Forwards Chris Salvaggione and Elvir Kafedzic are also now healthy and can be expected to see playing time come Saturday night. Montreal, despite being ahead of St. Louis in the standings, is not taking this match lightly.

“We can’t expect an easy game in St. Louis,” said assistant coach Mauro Biello. “Teams in this league at the bottom of the standings are just as dangerous as those at the top.”

AC St. Louis returns next returns home for a July 28 match against the Portland Timbers. Tickets are still available and can be obtained by calling 1-888-STL-GOAL, or by visiting www.ac-stlouis.com.
