AC ST. LOUIS HOST AUSTIN SATURDAY NIGHT

ST. LOUIS, MO (September 17, 2010) – AC St. Louis, playing in the USSF Division 2 Pro League, will host the Austin Aztex this Saturday night, September 18, at The Anheuser-Busch Soccer Park. Kick-off is set for 7:10 p.m. CDT. The game can be viewed live via web streaming at www.ac-stlouis.com. This is the third of four meetings between these two clubs, and a must win game for AC St. Louis if they are to keep their playoff hopes alive.

AC St. Louis enters Saturday night’s match eight points behind Minnesota for the eighth and final playoff spot. Meanwhile, the Austin Aztex enter the match looking to cement the best record in the league, which would clinch them the first seed in the playoffs. In two previous meetings against Austin St. Louis has a record of 0-0-2, which includes a 2-1 loss in the club’s home opener back in April, and a 2-0 loss at Austin in July.

St. Louis is still smarting from last weekends 3-0 loss to Minnesota, and with just four games remaining every match is now a must win. While not in control of their own destiny at this point, the club remains focused on what they can control.

“The guys are working hard. They are trying to pull things back together again,” said Head Coach Dale Schilly. “At this point we are absolutely looking at a couple things – each training session and the next game. We are really taking a hard look at what we are doing at each moment. We also asked the players two things this week; how hard are you willing to work, and how much do you care? Those are the elements we can control.”

AC St. Louis, despite two losses to the Aztex, has played the Texas squad tight in each game. That, coupled with the club’s performance over the last two month’s is something the team needs to remind themselves of.

“Practice has been fine this week. We realize that we really have been playing well for the past two months. Games like that (last Saturday) are bound to happen,” reflected goalkeeper Alec Dufty. “We are proud of the progress we have made with Dale Schilly and his coaching staff. We have to move forward this week, and try to get a result against Austin.”

“Practice this week was the same as always. We are just going out there and trying to work as hard as possible,” said defender Mark Bloom. “We can only control what we do. That is why we have to come out everyday and get better on the field, and it will show in the game.”

Saturday’s match will be the last of a three game home stand, and the last home date in a stretch of nine games that saw AC St. Louis have eight home dates. Next week the club will have a mid-week game in Miami, and then visit Austin for a Saturday night, September 25, match. AC St. Louis will need to win at least three of their final four games, and get help from other teams in beating both Minnesota and Tampa Bay for the team to reach the playoffs in their inaugural year.

AC St. Louis next returns home on Saturday, October 2, against the Rochester Rhinos for their season finale. Tickets for the match are still available. Call 1-888-STL-GOAL or visit www.ac-stlouis.com.
