AC ST. LOUIS HEAD NORTHWEST

ST. LOUIS, MO (July 8, 2010) – AC St. Louis, playing in the U.S.S.F. Division II Pro League, face the first-place Vancouver Whitecaps on Thursday night, July 8, at in Vancouver, British Columbia. Kick-off is set for 9:30 p.m. CT. The game can be viewed via live streaming at > http://bit.ly/ACSTL-2010-atVan3-Feed.

Thursday’s night match will be the third game between these two clubs this season. The previous 180 minutes of soccer between these two clubs has produced just one goal, so another tight, low scoring game might be in the works. Vancouver has a 1-0 win over AC St. Louis from their first encounter in April, and AC St. Louis held Vancouver to a 0-0 draw on June 26 in St. Louis.

New St. Louis Head Coach Dale Schilly is still in search of his first win at the helm, but has the club playing a better brand of soccer. Since taking over Schilly has a record of 0-2-1 in all competitions, which includes the draw against the Whitecaps in his first ever game. To get that first win Schilly will have to find some goal scoring touch due to the absence of Mike Ambersley. AC St. Louis’ leading goal scorer will be sidelined with a hip strain injury. Ambersley hopes to be ready for Saturday night’s game against Montreal.

Good news on the defensive side for St. Louis is that Zach Bauer is healthy and ready for his second straight game. Bauer recovered from a fractured foot, and was able to make the starting lineup last Saturday night against the Carolina Railhawks. AC St. Louis will likely field the same back four of Mark Bloom, Bauer, Jack Traynor, and Tim Velten as the defensive assignments begin to solidify.

Dale Schilly will likely use the same midfield quartet, but will have some decisions to make as far as whom he will pair with Gauchinho up top. Forwards Chris Salvaggione and Elvir Kafedzic are both healthy and on the trip.

Coming home with a win from Vancouver would be a big boost for St. Louis. The Whitecaps are currently on a seven-game unbeaten streak. St. Louis still has two games in hand on fifth place Miami, and back-to-back wins on Thursday and Saturday could propel them off the bottom of the table for the first time this year.

Getting to Vancouver however has proved tough. The club suffered through a canceled flight from Dallas to British Columbia on Tuesday afternoon, which forced them to spend the night in Texas. Their subsequently rescheduled flight was also canceled due to a mechanical problem. The team was still in route on Wednesday afternoon.

The club has announced one mid-week transaction. James McCarthy and AC St. Louis reached a mutual agreement to terminate the remainder of his contract. The forward from Demarset, New Jersey did not appear in any games for AC St. Louis. AC St. Louis now has a current roster of 21 players.

AC St. Louis returns home again Saturday night July 10 match against the Montreal Impact. Tickets are still available and can be obtained by calling 1-888-STL-GOAL, or by visiting www.ac-stlouis.com.
