AC ST. LOUIS RECORD FIRST WIN

ST. LOUIS, MO (May 1, 2010) – AC St. Louis, playing in the USSF Division 2 Pro League, earned their first victory in franchise history on Saturday night with a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace Baltimore at the Anheuser-Busch Soccer Park in front of 2,985. AC St. Louis ups their season record to 1-4-0, and moves off the bottomof the NASL Conference standings.

AC St. Louis wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, recording what will probably stand as the quickest goal in team history for quite a long time.Just 18 seconds into the game St. Louis came forward to win a corner. Luke Kreamalmeyer’s delivery inside the penalty area found the head of defender Tim Velten, who managed to keep the ball alive. Velten’s header inside the six-yard box and in front of the goalmouth found Manuel Kante who was able to direct the ball on goal with a glancing header that hit the crossbar and came down behind the goal line. AC St. Louis would make the 1-0 score stand for the next 90 plus minutes.

“It was very good because that goal gave us such confidence early in the game,” stated Kante. “I just don’t know what to say, I am so happy we have won three points.”

Both teams would generate five shots on the evening. Baltimore’s best sequence came in the 36th minute when Randy Patterson fired back-to-back shots at St. Louis keeper Alec Dufty. Dufty made the first save, giving up a rebound right back to Patterson who fired his next shot right off of Dufty’s face.

“I couldn’t get my hands up in time,” said Dufty. “The ball hit me right on the side of my face. I thought it would be pushed wide, and it was.”

Dufty earned his first shut out since April 11 of 2009 when he played for Red Bull New York. On that night he posted a blank sheet against the Houston Dynamo.

AC St. Louis returns home for a May 22 match against the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Tickets are still available and can be obtained by calling 1-888-STL-GOAL, or by visiting www.ac-stlouis.com.
